Last updated 20 October 20261. Location and rides
PedalQ uses your phone's location to record your ride, to follow your route and to show the map. Recording works with the screen off because the app keeps running while you ride. Your track, speed, heart rate and the other values are written to a file on your phone and nowhere else, unless you export or upload a ride yourself.
2. Sensors and radar
Heart-rate, speed, cadence and power sensors and rear radars connect to your phone over Bluetooth. Their readings stay on your phone.
3. Offline maps and routing data
Map regions and the data for re-routing are downloaded from our hosting provider. To send them, it needs your IP address and the name of the region; we keep no record of downloads.
4. Searching for a place
When you search for a destination, the app sends what you typed, your language and your current location (to rank nearby places first) to Photon, a place search run by komoot GmbH in Germany, which answers with matching places. Nothing else is sent: no name, no account, no device identifier.
5. Planning a route
When you plan a route in the app, or ask for a new route while you are off your line and the phone cannot work it out by itself, the app sends the start, the destination and the bike profile to our routing server in the EU. It answers with the route and keeps no copy of it. Its log keeps how long the answer took and which map area was used, for 14 days; no positions and no IP address.
Re-routing back to your line usually works on your phone, with the routing data of your offline maps, and then sends nothing.
6. Weather
To show the temperature, rain and wind for your ride, the app sends your location, rounded to about 1 km, to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), which answers with the forecast.
7. intervals.icu
Only if you connect it: the app stores your intervals.icu athlete ID and API key on your phone, in its protected storage, and uploads your rides to your intervals.icu account. intervals.icu processes them under its own privacy policy. Disconnecting removes the key from your phone.
8. Health Connect and Apple Health
Only if you switch them on: the app saves your rides to Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone). If you also allow it, it reads your heart rate, resting heart rate, weight, heart-rate variability and sleep from there, to work out your heart-rate zones and how ready you are. These values stay on your phone.
9. Exports, backups and problem reports
Exports (FIT, GPX), backups and problem reports are files made on your phone. The app opens your phone's share sheet, and you choose whether and where to send them. A problem report holds what went wrong, your note, the app version and the phone model, and the last ride if you add it.
10. Purchases
The one-time unlock is bought through Google Play or the App Store. We receive no payment details and no name; Google and Apple process the payment under their own privacy policies.
11. This website
This website sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads nothing from other services. Our hosting provider needs your IP address to send you the pages; we keep no record of visits.
12. Email
If you write to us, your message is received by our mail server in the EU, kept there for up to 30 days, and forwarded to our inbox, where we keep it as long as we need to answer you.
13. Who is responsible
The developer of PedalQ, reachable at hello@pedalq.com.
We rely on your choice to use a feature (searching, planning, weather, intervals.icu, Health) for what it sends, and on our legitimate interest in running the app, this website and email.
14. Your rights
As we keep nothing that identifies you, there is usually nothing about you for us to find. You can still ask what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use, and complain to a data protection authority. Write to hello@pedalq.com.
